Local Activities

Literally sitting on the Tukituki River with the cycle loop passing our gate there are two activities on your doorstep but if trout fishing and cycling are not your thing may be a gentle walk along the river path up and around the Black Barn River Lodges or a trip to the beach.

Surf, paddleboard, fish, walk or just sunbathe at the huge sandy surf beaches at Ocean Beach (10 mins) and Waimarama (20 mins).

Craggy Range (3 mins), Black Barn (5 mins), Elephant Hill and Clearview (15 mins), all provide delicious wine tasting and great food from world class sophistication to local rustic.

The world class golf course at Cape Kidnappers is just 20 mins down the road at Te Awanga. If golf is your thing then this is unmissable – rankings vary from 12th - 40th in the world depending on which publication – either way it is a gem (and tough!) and it is just down the road.

Other “must sees and dos” include the art deco city of Napier (Art Deco Festival in February), the Cape Kidnappers gannet colony, winery bike trails; Te Mata Peak, Horse of the Year Show (March), winery concerts throughout the summer and much, much more ...
